Video Smoke Detection and Video Fire Detection: AI-Powered Cloud Analytics

Detect smoke and fire in video from any CCTV or IP camera with 3dEYE's cloud-based video smoke detection system. AI-powered flame and smoke recognition responds in real time — faster than traditional alarms — enabling early warning, immediate evacuation alerts, and reduced fire damage. Activate video fire detection per camera on demand, no calibration required.

A fire doubles in size roughly every 30 seconds. Traditional smoke detectors won't help until particles drift up to the ceiling and hit the sensor — and in a tall warehouse or an open yard, that can take dangerously long. Video-based fire detection works differently. AI-trained video image smoke detection (VISD) spots flames or smoke at the source, through the camera lens, in real time. No particle travel time. No waiting. The moment something looks wrong, the system flags it. For warehouses and industrial facilities, this kind of video smoke detection is a game-changer — ceiling-mounted sensors struggle in large open spaces with high airflow. Cameras don't. Emergency services get alerted faster, and your people get out sooner.

How Video Smoke and Flame Detection Works with 3dEYE

Even if only smoke is detected in the video feed, the ability to promptly identify its source and assess the presence of an actual fire allows for swift and appropriate action. Rather than waiting for a traditional alarm to activate, 3dEYE's intelligent video smoke and flame detection analyzes camera feeds using AI — enhancing response times and reducing false alarms. The video fire detection system processes feeds from any CCTV or IP camera entirely in the AWS cloud, with no on-site calibration required.
With instantaneous detection of smoke and/or fires, alerts are promptly sent, enabling immediate action to prevent further damage or injury. 3dEYE platform does not require calibration to adapt to the usage environment, and all algorithms are processed entirely on the secure AWS cloud.
The fire and smoke detection modules are available as separate add-ons, allowing activation per camera based on specific security integrator or customer needs.
Please Note
It is important to note that the fire detection add-on is primarily designed to detect relatively large fires and may not be suitable for identifying small sources of fire, such as cigarette lighting or matches.
The fires should be at least 4%-5% of the image size to ensure detection.
Please be aware that smoke detection is optimized for opaque smoke and may not be sensitive enough to detect smoke from cigarettes or vaping devices due to their lower opacity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about the  3dEYE Fire and Smoke Detection module.
What types of fires can the fire detection module identify?
The fire detection module is primarily designed to detect relatively large fires. It can accurately identify fires that occupy at least 4%-5% of the image size. However, it may not be suitable for identifying small sources of fire, such as cigarette lighting or matches.
How does the smoke detection module work?
The smoke detection module uses intelligent video technology to identify opaque smoke. It is optimized for detecting smoke that obstructs visibility and poses a potential threat. However, it may not be sensitive enough to detect smoke from cigarettes or vaping devices due to their lower opacity.
Are the fire and smoke detection modules activated for all cameras by default?
No, the fire and smoke detection modules are available as separate add-ons. Activation of these modules can be customized based on specific security integrator or customer needs. This allows users to choose which cameras should have the fire and smoke detection capabilities, tailoring it to their requirements.
What is the difference between video smoke detection and traditional smoke alarms?
Ceiling-mounted smoke alarms have a blind spot nobody talks about. They need smoke to physically travel up and touch the sensor. In a big warehouse, on a factory floor with fans blowing, or outside in the open air — that smoke might scatter long before it gets anywhere near the ceiling. Video smoke detection doesn't have that problem. AI looks through the camera and catches smoke right at the source, in real time. You find out about a fire while it's still a small one.
Can video fire detection work outdoors and in open spaces?
Yes. One of the key advantages of video fire detection is its ability to monitor outdoor and open spaces where traditional fire alarms cannot operate. 3dEYE's cloud-based video analytics can detect fire and smoke from any IP camera — including cameras installed on oil rigs, construction sites, forest perimeters, solar farms, and outdoor storage areas.
